Welcome to Your Financial Fallacies.
I’m Calt, a computer scientist with a passion for debunking financial myths.
Financial literacy is key to making informed decisions about money. Here, I strive to simplify complex concepts and clarify common misconceptions with practical insights and resources to improve your knowledge.
Where to start
There’s already a lot of fallacies to unpack on this young project, I understand it can be overwhelming.
You may want to read them all from the beginning of time or you can browse them by category based on your interests.
Alternatively, you can follow my journey.
Upon graduation, I believed money could buy happiness — maybe not entirely, but a significant portion of it. Working tirelessly, I spent without saving, assuming money had purpose only when spent.
The wake-up call came when I struggled to pay rent. Overconfident that I could manage without a budget, I, an engineer, faced financial stress. It dawned on me that an emergency fund was not just useful but essential.
My focus on career advancement hindered financial planning, especially for retirement, leading to procrastination.
In my 30s, I embraced adulthood. I started a business from scratch, began investing with modest funds, and diligently saved for retirement. Trimming unnecessary luxuries, I married, purchased a house, and welcomed children, unraveling fallacies one by one. Now I’m targeting some form of lean and safe Financial Independence to keep working only on what is important to me.
I make mistakes, that’s where knowledge stems from—alongside insights from good books, not so much from YouTube financial gurus.
In essence, my financial journey required multiple life changes.
Through this website, I aim to make your path smoother and more comfortable.

If you like Your Financial Fallacies, there’s a good chance you may be into self-development as much as I am. I’ve been dedicating years of professional work on projects that aim to improve the life of users in a healthy way. If that resonates, you may want to check out the following projects:
- Habituator, a habit tracker for iOS is one of the apps I’ve worked on for the longest time (6 years). It is a habit tracker packed with features but designed with care so that it is also easy and a joy to use. It includes support for iPadOS and watchOS and really is packed with features. You can download Habituator here, it’s free to use with limitations and the pro version is fairly priced, not the usual rip-off.
- HabitTrackerTop - habit tracker templates is a free collection of everything about habit trackers, from printable templates to techniques to build your custom habit tracker on a bullet journal, Notion or even Google Sheets. Everything 100% free and curated by hand. I made most of the templates myself too.
- UpRead: speed reading for iOS: if you struggle to read enough or feel eye stress when reading on mobile or have ADHD or Dyslexia, you may be surprised by discovering a new method for reading does exist. It’s not new either: it has been invented in the 50s and immediately showed interesting results. UpRead brings that same approach to your pocket so that you can read much faster and focused and actually relaxed (after some use, that must be said). It’s much simpler to just try it than to describe it. You can check out all UpRead features here or download UpRead and try it with the free trial option. You can actually read Your Financial Fallacies too with the app :)
- Diary for iOS: I’m in love with journaling. It’s a great way to observe your own thoughts. It has a free trial available.
